Psalm 19 - Firm Foundations

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: Two Books, One Author

"The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmamenta proclaims his handiwork." (Psalm 19:1, NRSV)

God has been writing a long time. Two books, actually. The first book, the book of nature, is everywhere around us; sky-script written in clouds and starlight, page after page of dawn and dusk. The second book, the book of scripture, we hold in our hands; black ink on white paper, words that have been gathering force for centuries.

Most of us are illiterate in the first book. We've forgotten how to read weather and seasons, how to decipher the vocabulary of wind and the grammar of growing things. We're so busy with our small screens that we miss the vast manuscript spread above us every single day.

But here's what strikes me: the God who flung galaxies into space is the same God who breathed life into the words of scripture. Same author, same voice, same love story being told in two different languages.

When did you last sit still long enough to let creation preach to you? When did you last notice that the same hands that shaped mountains also shaped the syllables of scripture?

TODAY: Before you check your phone, step outside. Find one thing (a tree, a cloud, a bird) that's telling you something about God.

PRAYER: God, you've been speaking longer than I've been listening. Slow me down enough to hear your voice in the rustling leaves and the turning pages. Help me read your two books as one love letter. Amen.

About this Plan

Psalm 19 - Firm Foundations

We live in an age of information overload, but we're starving for wisdom. Psalm 19 cuts through the noise by revealing God's dual revelation: the silent sermon of creation and the life-giving power of scripture. Over the next seven days, learn to hear God's voice in both the rustling leaves and the turning pages, finding the solid ground your soul craves.
