DAY 5 OF 5

We need to understand that the whole world, everything, is negatively impacted by sin right now.

Everything.

Trees don’t look the way they should.

We don’t look the way we should.

Fruit doesn’t taste the way it should.

Our desires aren’t the way they should be.

But in this new, restored creation, all things will have been made new. Nature flourishing, fruit succulent, humans thriving in community with one another.

Just as Adam and Eve were told to cultivate the earth—told to help bring creation into its full potential—we, too, will have a job to do, but in the most meaningful and fulfilling way. Our work won’t be a slog or full of difficult, boring, or repetitive labor. It will be meaningful and fulfilling.

We’ll have good food and good music, art and creativity, the pursuit of passions and sports if you’re into that, all in worship to our Creator. And we’ll have it forever. The word forever sounds scary now, but that’s just because of our limited ability to understand eternity from our fallen perspective. Experiencing eternity won’t be frightening. It’ll feel the way it was always supposed to feel.

Joy and laughter.

Dancing and smiles.

Purpose and fulfillment.

A place where we will enjoy the best of the best, all out of God’s abundant love for us.

My words could never do it justice, but I’ll never stop trying despite knowing eternity will be far greater than I could imagine. As followers of Jesus, believing he was resurrected from the dead, we can have hope for a future when the rest of creation, including us, will be perfected and made new. This is where we put our hope, no matter what comes our way in life. We are to live in that anticipation, as citizens of God’s kingdom right now. That’s something to get excited about.

Prayer

Lord, I am so excited to be part of your renewed world. Thank you for inviting me to follow you, and please use me to share your invitation with others. Amen.
