2 Corinthians 9:10-11 says this:
"God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take our gifts to those who need them, they will thank God."
I love that verse. Giving is a joy! God wants us to share all the good things He has given us generously. He’s promised to give you resources to share with others. This means we should gladly share our time, our money, our skills—all the good things He’s given us. Even if you don’t have a lot of time and money to give, you can share the rich resources of God’s Kingdom by using whatever He’s given you to extend His love to others. If you have Christ living in you, you are rich indeed with a special kind of treasure!
Can you imagine what it would be like if we behaved as though our resources did not belong to us, but to God?
Acts 4:32–35 gives us a description of the early church. It says:
"All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt like what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need."
Our whole lives and everything we own belongs to Jesus. If everyone acted accordingly, no one would be destitute! The world tells us that everything we earn or are given is ours to keep—we deserve it, and we have no obligation to share it. But God tells us in His Word that every good thing in our lives is a gift from Him. It is a blessing to participate in a generous community of givers!
Let’s pray.
Lord, thank You for everything we have. It is all a gift from you, and we hold it loosely, ready to share as you direct us. Help us to be generous just like you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
