The Wonder of the Wildernessਨਮੂਨਾ

The Wonder of the Wilderness

DAY 6 OF 6

The Wonder of the Wilderness

The Negev desert is one of the most arid lands in the world, and yet during Abraham and Isaac’s time, it was dotted by wells that they dug. Isaac especially dug many wells, which helped sustain his numerous and ever-increasing flocks and herds. He is said to have sowed seed and reaped a hundredfold in the same year. It was an agricultural miracle if there ever was one, since it happened in the midst of a severe famine in the land. The famine, nor the dry conditions of Canaan, stopped him from digging deep and finding life-giving water for him, his household and his cattle. The key to Isaac’s success and tremendous prosperity was not his effort but the presence of God every step of the way. For us, in the 20th century, who don’t have a clue how to dig a well, we can do the next best thing. We can go looking for God smack dab in the middle of our most barren and difficult season yet. He isn’t far off. In fact, He’s closer than we know. Just like the Samaritan woman who met with Jesus at the well, He waits for us. He longs to be with us, listen to us and speak to us. The problem is that our modern lives are so noisy, and we find it impossible to shut down the cacophony and tune in to him. The wilderness is so conditioned that we are left in a place so quiet that all we can hear is our own breathing and the swirling winds of confusion and lack of clarity around us. It’s the best time to sit down and go deep with Jesus, the fountain of life himself.

As hard as this season will be, the greatest joy will be to discover the wonder of who God is in this time. He will display his power and glory like never before. He will prove that He is the supreme Redeemer in the way that he brings good out of the worst that life throws at us. He will make a way in the desert when there is literally no other way. He will protect you and provide for you right down to the minutest detail. He will, interestingly enough, transform you into someone radically different than the person who walked into the wilderness. You will find yourself comfortable in solitude, stoic in the face of storms and still amidst the swirling seas of life. You would have built an endurance that emanates strength from inside out. You will walk with the shalom kind of peace that Jesus promised his disciples. You will have your head held high with the confidence that comes from knowing God is with you while your heart is bowed low in worship before this God who holds the worlds in His hands.

Are you ready to embrace the wilderness for all that it is and for all that it will do for you? Are you ready to be embraced by the God who will lead you in and bring you out of the wilderness? God, for whom nothing is impossible!
