Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

DAY 8 OF 92

Devotional:

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

We all make plans—big and small. Whether it’s goals for the future, our daily schedules, or simply what’s next, planning makes us feel like we have control. But Proverbs 16:9 gently reminds us that while planning has its place, it is ultimately the Lord who directs our steps.

This verse is not a call to abandon preparation or planning, but rather an invitation to hold our plans loosely and trust God fully. We may think we know the best way forward, but God sees what we cannot—He sees the full picture. Sometimes, His redirection can feel like delay or disappointment, but often it’s divine protection or preparation. When we yield our hearts and plans to God, we can experience peace, even when the path looks different than we imagined. His way is not just better—it’s perfect. As we move forward in faith, we can rest in the truth that our steps are established by a loving, sovereign Father.

Are you facing uncertainty today? Or perhaps your plans have recently unraveled? Let this verse remind you: God is not surprised. He is guiding every step with purpose and care.

Prayer:

Take time to bring your plans before the Lord - ask for guidance in your daily and weekly plans. Sit with your calendar and pray for the leadership of the Holy Spirit in each event in your immediate future. And then listen for and watch for the direction of the Holy Spirit to lead you, especially in times of uncertainty. Thank God that He is not surprised by where we find ourselves. He is guiding every step with purpose and care.

About this Plan

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
