Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

DAY 68 OF 92

Devotional:

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:17–18 (NIV)

In a world filled with noise, opinions, and division, James reminds us that not all wisdom is the same. Earthly wisdom often promotes self-interest, pride, and conflict. But the wisdom that comes from God is radically different—it flows from a heart that reflects Christ and puts others before ourselves.

Heavenly wisdom begins with purity. It’s not mixed with selfish motives or hidden agendas. It loves peace, extends kindness, listens well, and yields without a need to dominate. It’s full of mercy—not quick to judge, but quick to forgive. It produces good fruit, is consistent in truth, and honest in intent.

This kind of wisdom brings healing and unity. James says that peacemakers—those who live out this wisdom—plant seeds of peace and will harvest righteousness. Our relationships, decisions, and words all become fertile ground for God’s grace when we seek His wisdom above our own.

Ask yourself: What kind of wisdom is shaping my life right now? Is it rooted in humility and grace, or in pride and control? Is it found in the news or from social media? True wisdom is not just what we know—it’s how we live. And when we live with the wisdom from above, we become instruments of peace in a broken world.

Prayer:

Feeling torn between competing voices or unsure how to respond with grace? Ask God for His wisdom and a heart to be a peacemaker. Ask God to help you see where you are filling your mind with “wisdom” that doesn’t line up with His truth.

About this Plan

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
