Listening to God's Voice

DAY 3 OF 7

God Speaks Through Prayer

God invites us to call on Him, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3) This isn’t a passive suggestion; it’s an active invitation to engage with God through prayer, promising a direct response and the unveiling of profound truths. Prayer isn’t just about us talking to God; it’s also about creating a space for Him to speak to us. As we pour out our hearts to Him, we can also listen for His responses, whether through a sense of peace, a prompting, or a clear thought.

Think of prayer not just as a monologue of our needs and desires, but as a dialogue, an open line of communication with the Creator of the universe. Jeremiah’s words assure us that when we call out to God, God listens and He answers. This answer might not always be immediate or in the form we expect, but it is a guaranteed reality.

The promise extends beyond a simple acknowledgment. God offers to reveal great and unsearchable things. These aren’t just trivial facts; they are insights into His character, His will, and the deeper mysteries of life that are beyond our natural comprehension. Through prayer, we gain access to a wisdom that transcends human understanding. However, this promise isn’t a magic formula. It requires a genuine calling, a heartfelt reaching out to God with sincerity, and a willingness to listen. It involves creating space to hear His still, small voice amidst the noise of our lives.

God speaks through prayer in various ways. Sometimes it’s a clear prompting, a sense of direction that resonates within our spirit. Other times, it’s a gradual unfolding of understanding as we wrestle with a situation in His presence. He might speak through a sense of peace that settles over us, confirming a decision, or through a burden that stirs us to action. God invites us into a deeper relationship with Him, one where we actively seek His voice and trust His promise to speak through prayers. Let us take Him at His word, call upon Him, and be open to the great and unsearchable things He desires to reveal to us.

Reflection

Do we see prayer as a two-way conversation? Are we taking time not only to speak but also to listen for God’s voice in our prayers? Sometimes, the answer isn’t immediate, but as we continue to seek Him in prayer, He will reveal His heart to us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, teach me to pray in a way that opens my heart to hear Your voice. Help me to be still after I speak, listening for Your guidance and wisdom. May my conversations with You deepen my understanding of your will for my life. Amen.

About this Plan

Listening to God's Voice

Have you ever asked the question, “If God still speaks today?” Or "How to tell if it’s truly Him who is speaking?" As believers, learning to listen to God’s voice is one of the most important parts of our relationship with Him. Listening to God’s voice is not about hearing an audible voice from the sky—though that can happen—but about learning to recognise how God speaks through the Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and through God’s people and circumstances. Over the next 7 days, we’ll explore stories in the Bible where God spoke to ordinary people, just like us.
