DEPRESSION IS a LIE - a Podcast Series With Dustin Tavella

DAY 3 OF 6

Let’s Get Real:

Here’s one of the biggest lies depression throws at you:
“You’re alone.”

But guess what?
That’s not just wrong—it’s completely opposite of what God says.

In the video, we looked at promise after promise in Scripture that proves just how far God goes to make sure we know He’s with us.

He doesn’t just say it once. He says it over and over.
He even named Himself Immanuel, which literally means“God with us.”

So why is it still so easy to feel alone?

When Distractions Steal Our Focus

God doesn’t disappear. But sometimes… we stop noticing He’s there.

One of the biggest reasons? Distractions.

Sometimes it’s not that God’s far away—it’s that something else has taken over our focus.
And once our eyes are locked on what the world offers, it gets harder to see where God is moving.

We fall into this trap of thinking:

“God feels distant… maybe He left.”

But the truth?

“God never moved. We just got distracted.”

I used to worry that I was being “too religious” when I felt like I needed to cut out certain things from my life.
I didn’t want to be that person—the one who was out of touch or “too holy.”

But that mindset gave me blindspots.
And those blindspots made me vulnerable to lies.

God isn’t calling you to be weird—He’s calling you to be set apart. Why? I'll say it a hundred more times if I have to... Because He doesn't want you to forget what is TRUE
He's not trying to make your life boring. He wants to protect your heart and keep your focus clear.

So, What Now?

Distractions will try to convince you that they can fill you.
And when they fail, it’s easy to start blaming God for feeling absent.

But here’s what God is saying:

“I never left. I’ve been here the whole time.”

And here’s the best part:
It’s never too late to refocus. It's never too late to set your eyes back on Him.

That’s grace!
Every time we drift, God lovingly welcomes us back and reminds us:

“You’re not alone. You never were.”

Get Louder with the Truth

When loneliness lies to you, fight back.

Just like we talked about yesterday—get loud with truth.
Say it out loud. Remind yourself of God’s promises.
If the lies in your head are going to be loud, make truth louder.

Be intentional about what’s shaping your thoughts.
Social media, movies, friends, and culture might make you feel like it’s “weird” to focus on Jesus.

But focusing on Him is how you stay grounded in what is TRUE.

Your Challenge Today:

  • Identify distractions that might be pulling your attention away from God.
  • Ask God to show you blindspots where you’ve bought into the world’s noise.
  • Speak truth out loud: “I am not alone. God is with me.” (Repeat as many times as you need!)

Prayer You Can Pray:

God, sometimes I feel like I’m on my own. But Your Word says You’re always with me. Help me tune out the distractions that make You hard to see. When I get focused on the wrong things, bring my attention back to You. Thank You for never leaving—even when I forget You’re there. Help me get loud with truth when the lies start to creep in. Amen.

Bottom Line:

You are not alone.
Distractions may blur your vision, but God never leaves you.
At times you may FEEL alone, but the truth is that you are NOT alone.

STAY FOCUSED ON WHAT IS TRUE!
