The Key to the Future You Want

DAY 1 OF 6

DESIRE ISN'T ENOUGH

We all have desires—dreams for our future, and things we’d like to be true. But desire alone doesn’t make those dreams a reality. If it did, we’d all be in great shape, have financial freedom, and enjoy perfect relationships. Every missionary would be well-funded and every outreach would be fully supplied.

The world sells the idea that simply wanting something or believing it’s true will make it happen. But belief and desire, on their own, don’t change reality.

Modern culture promotes entitlement, encouraging us to think we can have what we want with little effort. We’re bombarded with messages like, “Make six figures with no work!” “Lose weight without changing your diet.” This mindset creates frustration when our desires don’t materialize.

Pastor Tim’s lesson of the 5 frogs can help us see the problem. “There are 5 Frogs on a log, 4 decided to jump off. How many are left?” Most of our minds quickly look at the math and say there should be one left. But we are wrong, there are 5 left. “There is a difference between deciding and doing.” (Tim Gilleo) A lot of people make New Year's resolutions of what they should do and even ways to achieve what they wish for, but most people don’t stick to their decisions.

They fall for the American myth that our desires entitle us to their fulfillment. “My desires will come to pass because I want them.” This sounds good and is culturally affirmed, but it's still not true.

The paths we walk, not the desires we have, take us to our destination. We will end our lives at the end of the path we walked, not at the place we wished for. A habit is a choice that we keep making until we stop realizing we are making it. Habits are the things that we do over and over, they are the steps of our life that move us down the path to the future that we will have.

The secret to our future is in our daily routine. Desire not acted on only leads to disappointment, but a habit makes a path that will lead us somewhere. Our habits will make us rich, broke, happily married, divorced, wise, foolish, fulfilled, empty, loved, isolated, healthy or unhealthy, physically and spiritually.

About this Plan

The Key to the Future You Want

Desire alone won’t shape your future—habits will. Dreams become reality not through wishes, but through consistent, intentional actions. The path we walk daily, not the one we hope for, determines our destination. Small, repeated choices—good or bad—form habits that lead to success or regret. Your habits, not your intentions, define your life. Choose them wisely because consistency, not dreams, builds lasting change.
