Unexpected

DAY 27 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read Matthew 7:7–11 again.

  • What stands out to you?
  • What does it teach us about God's undeniable goodness?
  • What role does it say we have in accepting this?

A: Application

What's something that keeps you from asking God for good things?

What does this passage invite you to do differently in how you approach God?

How would your perspective change if you looked to God first when you're in need?

P: Prayer

Spend some time praying to God for being a giver of good gifts. Say thank you for all the ways you've seen God provide good things in your life. Ask for help, trusting God to provide for you in the future. Invite God to show you others who might need this message today.

About this Plan

Unexpected

For many, the Christmas season is bursting with excitement about gifts—what’s on your wish list? What surprises might be under the tree? And what about the joy of finding the perfect present for someone? But the very first Christmas was all about the best, unexpected gift that God picked out for us. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll explore the Christmas story to reveal the unexpected wrapped in the gift of Jesus! Let’s tie the bows and deck the halls, but most of all, let's celebrate the unexpected ways God is with us this season.
