Only Jesus Makes Way for The Holy Spirit
When reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus, we can be amazed by the story, but also struggle to feel how it connects to us around 2,000 years later. What does it all mean for us? And how do we heed the teachings of Jesus and live them out? Especially when our world becomes difficult and challenging.
At the moment of Jesus' ascension, this may have been how the disciples felt. Yet Jesus had promised them that he would not leave them (nor us) as orphans. His death and resurrection not only save us but also make a way for us to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Where at one time the presence of God was reserved for sacred spaces like the tabernacle or temple, now the Holy Spirit will live inside of anyone who follows Jesus. We become the temple and sacred space in which he dwells. It is the Holy Spirit who guides us, intercedes for us, encourages us, transforms us and reveals truth to us. He is the power source of our Christian faith. We can lean on him at any time, especially in the face of all of life’s difficulties and challenges.
Reflection Questions:
- What has been your experience of the gift of the Holy Spirit?
- What are the areas of your life that you have not been leaning on the Holy Spirit for power?
- How might you invite the Holy Spirit in lead, guide, encourage or empower you in this?
