Who Is Jesus?ਨਮੂਨਾ

“I AM the Bread of Life.”
I don’t go to Starbucks all that often, but when I do and they ask me what name to put on the cup, I vacillate between two names.
It’s either “Tim” or “Machiavelli.”
I can say whatever I want, but the latter of the two names brings me the most amusement.
If you’ve ever had to fill in a name tag, I’m sure you know what I am talking about. It’s an opportunity for you to tell the world who you are.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses several opportunities to tell the world who He is. This week, we will examine seven of His self-identifying markers.
To start off, Jesus says in John 6 that He is “The Bread of Life.”
He had just finished feeding over five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. It was a startling miracle. It proved that Jesus could take care of the needs of however many people came to Him for help; He would provide more than enough!
Afterward, the people hunted high and low for Him because they wanted to get some more free stuff.
Jesus wanted them to know that anything else besides Him would only satisfy them for a little while, and then they would need more. Nothing would truly satisfy the deepest needs in people’s hearts except Him, the “Bread of Life.”
“Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” (John 6:26-27)
Jesus is the only true source of satisfaction for a man’s hungry heart.
Do you feel that hunger? Do you feel that emptiness?
Surrender everything to Jesus, turn to Him, and let Him satisfy your soul.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I can find myself feeling hunger in my heart. I am tempted to run after other things: money, power, sex, pleasure, etc. They satisfy me for a moment but often leave me feeling emptier than before. Help me always to find my truest satisfaction in You. Thank You for giving Yourself to me. Thank You for coming so that I might have life to the fullest. You are more generous to me than I deserve, and I am forever grateful. Amen.
Reflection: What are you chasing after these days to fill the emptiness in your heart?
