In the LORD’S Army

II Kings 3 tells of three kings heading to battle who found themselves in a wilderness area with no water to sustain them. They call on God’s prophet Elisha to give them guidance from the LORD. Elisha has no regard for two of the kings or their armies, but because of Judah’s king, he will inquire of God. The LORD responds with life-saving water.

In the two vignettes of Jesus in Matthew 8:23-34, we see Jesus as one with great power over evil beings and destructive natural forces. He is shown to be in control of physical phenomena beyond human capabilities. Jesus had just talked about the cost of following Him (vv18-22). He expects to be followed, yet there will be a price to pay by the one committed to the task.

We must know that in our daily walk, as we march into battle with the world, God will have regard for us because of our king, Jesus, the real King of Judah. In our faith, we may call on Him and not be afraid because He is mighty to save.
