Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of Johnਨਮੂਨਾ

From Emptiness to Abundance
Summary
- In Jesus’ time, generosity and hospitality were important social virtues celebrated by all.
- At a wedding in Cana, the wine ran out and it was becoming a potential social disaster for the married couple and their families. Mary asked Jesus for help to avoid a situation that will cause deep embarrassment for this couple and their families.
- Jesus initially seemed reluctant to help, but Mary persisted by asking the servants to do whatever Jesus instructed them.
- Then Jesus performed His first miracle: turning water into wine. He used jars meant for ceremonial washing, transforming a symbol of ritual purity into a source of joy.
- This miracle reveals Jesus' divine authority and compassion, pointing to His ability to bring abundance where there was lack.
- His disciples witnessed the sign and believed in Him, marking the beginning of their deeper understanding of His identity and mission.
Reflect
1. Why do you think Jesus acceded to His mother’s appeal despite His initial reluctance? What does this teach us about persistent prayer?
2. What does Jesus' first miracle at Cana reveal about His identity and mission?
3. As you recall your past experiences with the Lord, have you seen Jesus providing for you in your times of need? How have these experiences strengthened your faith? Spend time to thank Him for His past provisions.
