You’re Not Alone

I heard the cough from across the room. As the mom of a kid with asthma, I knew what that sound meant. The sneezing he’d been experiencing for a few days now was moving into his lungs. Many times, he would be just fine after a few breathing treatments of albuterol from the nebulizer. But occasionally it got bad, a simple cold quickly turning into an ER visit, once with his lips turned blue from lack of oxygen. My mama’s heart twisted in fear.

It’s really inevitable. As a mom, we know these times of worry and fear will come, when we aren’t sure if our little ones are going to be okay. And it can become even scarier when we feel like we are facing those times alone— without a husband or a partner to help us stay calm in the middle of the storm.

The good news is, we have Someone with us who is pretty well-known for calming actual, literal storms. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and when you find yourself facing an overwhelming situation, one in which you don’t know what to do or how things will turn out, you can always turn to Him. He’s never asleep, not listening, not waiting to answer you when you need Him. “Don’t be afraid,” He says to you today. He’s got the situation in hand, even if you feel you don’t. And He will work it out.

Lord, at times fear grips my heart, and I don’t know what to do or where to turn. Thank You for always being there for me, for never leaving my side. I lay all of my worries and fears at Your feet today, trusting that You are holding me in Your loving hands. Amen.
