Prayers for My Adult Childਨਮੂਨਾ

For the Child Who Wants What the World Offers
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
1 John 2:15
Talk to God
Heavenly Father, there have certainly been times in my own life when I have chased after the shiny things of the world. As I pray in this area for my adult child, infuse me with grace and empathy because this kind of affliction is common to all humanity. Even so, I pray that whatever they chase will not satisfy. May the hunt produce in them a deeper longing for that which lasts. People and Your Word are the only things that last, but so often we run after every other thing. In this passage, I see the cure for loving the things in the world is to love something (Someone) greater. Please increase my adult child’s desire and capacity to love You. Amen.
Think
People are far more important than things, and worship of God is far more important than chasing pleasure. The key is to remember both truths.
Take Action
Freely, joyfully give something away today, whether it is a possession or the generous gift of time.

About this Plan

When children move out of the house, begin an independent life, and eventually establish their own families, it can be hard to navigate what role you should play as a parent. In this devotional, Mary DeMuth gives parents a language of prayer for their grown-up children. Even though parental fears abound as the sin of this world poses ever-present threats, take your children to the Lord in prayer and know they are loved by the God of the universe.
