Building Genuine Relationships
“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.”
Luke 19:5-6 NIV
Sharing Jesus begins with relationships, not rehearsed speeches or perfect theology. People are more likely to see Jesus in your life when you build trust and show genuine care for them. This is exactly how Jesus interacted with those around Him.
In Luke 19, we see Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus, a tax collector. Despite Zacchaeus’ reputation as a sinner, Jesus called him by name and chose to share a meal at his home. Through this act of friendship, Zacchaeus experienced God’s love, leading him to repentance and transformation.
Building genuine relationships means caring about others as people, not “projects.” Start with small steps:
- Take a real interest in someone’s life. Ask about their family, hobbies, or struggles.
- Listen actively and empathetically without thinking of what to say next.
- Show care through thoughtful gestures, like offering a helping hand or sharing a kind word.
These actions, while small, reflect the heart of Jesus. Over time, trust builds, and opportunities to share your faith will arise naturally. When your actions consistently show Christ’s love, your words will carry weight.
What’s one practical way you can show genuine care for someone in your life this week?
Pray:
Father, help me build real, lasting relationships. Teach me to listen well, ask thoughtful questions, and show Your love through my actions. Amen.
