Beauty in Belonging: Anchoring in Christ in Every Season by Jenny Erlingssonਨਮੂਨਾ

Day 4: Belonging in Community
Often, when we feel rejected, we can keep ourselves stuck in that state if we don’t halt the lies we speak over ourselves or offer forgiveness for the ways we’ve been hurt. That’s why knowing the truth of who you are in Christ is so vital. That truth uproots every lie of the enemy as you lean into what God says about you and what He’s given you to do. Much organic influence can come from that place.
Over the years, I have thoroughly savored showing hospitality to others out of the needs I’ve felt in my own life. Moving to Iceland did not guarantee us instant community and relationships. But even though I couldn’t control how well I connected with others, I soon realized that I could cultivate the safe, authentic places I longed for.
In a moment of need, Adanne ends up surrounded by her core community. They step up to cover her, helping her realize that all the seeds she has planted to make others feel provided for and loved have grown into a community that looks for an opportunity to do the same for her.
Justine’s words came on the end of a hum, low and contemplative. “I wish it got easier. It doesn’t really. But I think it should get lighter. Especially when you let the people who love you help carry the load.”
God promises us in His Word that what we sow, we will reap. Knowing who you are in Christ and cultivating that relationship with Christ positions you to release influence that is impactful and lasting, even if you don’t always see the results right away. But there is fruit that comes out of your obedience, which allows others to taste and see that God is good. You have no idea the beauty God has waiting for you as you’re faithful to cultivate compassion and goodness around you.
