Stories of the Kingdom: The Parables of Jesusਨਮੂਨਾ

Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders
In the Gospels of Matthew (7:24-27) and Luke (6:47-49), Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish builders. He uses the analogy of two individuals who build houses—one on a solid foundation of rock and the other on sand—to illustrate the importance of building one's life upon Jesus' teachings.
The wise builder listens to Jesus' words, puts them into practice, and is likened to someone who builds their house on a rock foundation. When storms arise, the house stands firm because of its sturdy foundation. In contrast, the foolish builder, who hears Jesus' teachings but does not follow them, is compared to someone who builds their house on sand. When storms come, the house collapses because it lacks a solid foundation.
This parable serves as a metaphor for the spiritual life. Jesus emphasizes the necessity of hearing and obeying His teachings. Those who heed His words and live according to His wisdom will find stability and resilience in life's trials, while those who ignore His teachings will experience devastation and ruin.
How can we discern whether our lives are built upon a solid foundation of faith and obedience to Christ?

About this Plan

Jesus was a master storyteller. He knew that the timeless principles He was trying to articulate would be best remembered through storytelling. He often spoke through parables to (1) communicate a more profound truth, (2) make His teachings more accessible to those who were ready to hear them, and (3) confound those who refused to listen. Parables were shaped to convey a single thought, so don't get lost in the details wondering what each part means. Absorb the story and allow Jesus to communicate His truth to your heart.
