Make it Personal
“It became personal.” That’s a phrase I’ve heard so many times when it comes to students talking through adversity they’ve faced in life. When things become personal whether it’s from jokes directed towards us, family, or friends, protective instincts are engaged. These particular moments trigger a reaction of passion. These moments make us want to go from a defensive to an offensive place where we let people know how we feel. That passion is lived out because we greatly care about the person to whom the words are directed.
As followers of Jesus, there are moments when people disagree with us about our opinions, faith, or life. But here’s the thing: Jesus has experienced this too. One of the reasons Jesus died on the cross was the Pharisees didn’t believe He was the Messiah. They did not think He was the Son of God. But, their persecution led Jesus to his ultimate purpose to die on the cross for our sins and be raised from the dead. After His resurrection, it cultivated a passion in His disciples and followers to share their faith with the world and His followers died for their faith. Where did this passion come from? Their personal experience with Jesus. His disciples would testify of the miracles, signs, and wonders of Jesus and that He was who He said he was – the Savior of the world and the Son of God. Make it personal! Go testify about what God has done in your life!
