Day 3: Persecuted for Righteousness’ Sake

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10).

Theme

Nate’s laser-focused determination to complete his mission, despite intense opposition, mirrors the unwavering perseverance of an athlete who singularly pursues their dreams despite endless setbacks. Like that athlete, Nate undergoes a pivotal shift from self-reliance to full submission to a greater purpose. Initially operating from his own abilities, Nate has a transformative encounter that compels him to place his total dependence on God’s provision.

Throughout the film, Nate and the other believers face fierce persecution from the US government and Homeland Security simply for being Christians and trying to remain faithful to biblical truth.

• While persecution looks different in the United States and other Western nations than the rest of the world, have you ever faced ridicule, disadvantages, or marginalization because of your faith? Describe that experience.
• How can we pray for and support our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering far worse than we are for the gospel?
• Jesus promises blessing for those who are persecuted because of righteousness (Matthew 5:10–12). How can His promise encourage us when we face opposition?
