Rest for the Weary Workin’ Mama Soul, a 7-Day Devotional by KeNosha Whiteheadਨਮੂਨਾ

Day 6: The Posture of Rest
Dear Workin’ Mama,
Jesus calls you to a posture of sacred rest. He desires that you refresh steadily and unapologetically in the respite only he can provide.
The posture of sacred rest, though, is often unnatural for the workin’ mama because this type of rest will require you to cast off your cape and embrace your weakness, dare I say, even boast in it.
As a mama who punches the clock, chances are you take pride in your enterprising and entrepreneurial skills that help you manage a workload and a household. You incessantly and excellently meet the needs of those around you while neglecting to acknowledge or advocate for your own needs. You relish the rewards for your high performance and tendency to save the day. You push. You persevere. You shun the notion of rest as your kryptonite to accomplishment and acceptance. You convince yourself that rest is for the weak.
And rest is, without a doubt, for the weak.
Paul teaches us in 2 Corinthians 12:5-10 that when we acknowledge and acquiesce to our weakness, we give the Lord a remarkable opportunity to supply us with His sufficient grace, unwavering strength, and insurmountable power.
I have discovered that when I gladly and willingly admit that my capacity is low and my anxiety is high, that I messed up or missed it, only then do I tap into a sacred rest that is marked by the reassurance of God’s pure love for me apart from any title I possess or any problem I can solve. Ironically, this supernatural kind of rest unleashes the Holy Spirit to empower me in new and meaningful ways for motherhood and the marketplace.
Reflection Question:
How can I embrace weakness as an opportunity for God’s strength and rest to be displayed in my position as a working mom?
