Remember Who You Are
Today, we are continuing our journey down memory lane to encourage our faith and solidify our confidence in God’s faithfulness. We started yesterday by remembering who God is. Like the sturdy foundation that holds up a sound structure, focusing first on God will help us build a stable storehouse of remembrances to sustain us through the challenging seasons of life.
What comes next after remembering who God is? It is remembering who we are. As Christians, we must draw our identity from our relationship with God. When we know Whose we are, we can truly know who we are.
So, how do we understand our identity as Christians? The Bible gives us many pictures of our relationship with God, but one of the most beautiful and prominent is the picture of an adopted child. Through Christ, God the Father brings us into His family as His children and makes us His sons and daughters. Adoption shows God’s initiative in choosing us. It also shows His loving acceptance of us before we ever do anything to please Him.
Knowing that we are God’s children can build our confidence in life’s storms because we know that our Father is in control. Just like a child draws strength to face a new challenge or milestone by knowing their dad is right there with them, we can draw strength knowing that God is with us. Picture a young child standing at the edge of a pool, not sure if they are brave enough to jump in. Now, picture their father or trusted guardian waiting in the pool with arms open, ready to catch them when they jump. No doubt the child will be ready to take the leap they were scared to take alone. With their trusted guardian there, they know they will be safe from the scary waters below.
Take heart today knowing that you are a child of God. You may not have a very good earthly father, but you have a perfect heavenly Father. He is a good and trustworthy Guardian. As His child, you have access to His presence and His promises. So, fall back into heavenly arms you can trust today. You are a child of God.
Thought of the Day: I am a child of God! No matter what I face in this life, I can endure it, knowing that my Father is with me!
