Jesus said these words to a very specific audience. Actually, He said them to a very specific person. Jesus shared these words with the woman at the well. He found her there in an unexpected encounter. She was vulnerable, scared, exposed, and ashamed. While she may have expected someone to greet her with reprimand and judgment, Jesus met her with a different posture. He offered her something in that moment that only He could give: life. Not just any life, but a full, eternal, overflowing life with Him. It’s something no one had to give. And this woman gladly received it!

Jesus offers us the same thing today. In our most broken, vulnerable, weary, fearful moments, Jesus is standing in front of us offering more than we can even imagine. He’s offering us a chance at fulfillment. An overflowing life, a full life, a life lived following Him from here to eternity. While the world tells us to chase one thing, as followers of Jesus we can remember that what we ultimately want is the deep fulfillment we’ll only find in Jesus Himself. What we can pursue is the life Jesus offers us all. Ask the Lord to set your heart on the path of life that He gives. Ask Him to help you find fulfillment in Him and Him alone.
