Influence through Servanthood and Integrity
Jesus and His followers spoke over and over about this tool. Listen to their words:
"It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28
“...through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14
When we serve:
- We meet practical needs in our world that others will not meet.
- We demonstrate humility and genuine concern for others.
- We remove all barriers between others and ourselves.
- We redefine what a Christian is.
- When we serve, others take notice and begin to listen.
Integrity
Integrity is defined as the quality of being honest, fair, complete and whole. A second great need for influencing the world is integrity. The world system is broken, and integrity is no longer seen in any realm of life. People don’t work hard in their job, steal time off from work, don’t keep their word, take that which is not theirs, and easily deceive others for personal gain. This is NORMAL in the world today and a person with real integrity stands out and brings influence. Words that are deeply connected to integrity are sincerity, faithfulness, truthfulness, fairness, honesty, and trustworthy.
Integrity is when people...
- Do what is right, no matter what.
- Keep their word, even when it hurts.
- Do more than is required on the job.
- Obey the rules and laws even when all others are not.
- Come to work on time and stay longer at work than is required.
When you demonstrate integrity, you can be trusted, admired, and promoted. When you live in integrity, others will notice because you are operating from a different set of rules. Integrity brings influence.
