"In Your Presence" - We Look to You
"You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures." - Psalm 16:11
Need to unclog the kitchen sink? Want to learn to play bass? Say “hello” in Czech? Teach your cat to high-five? Technology has made it to where, if you don’t know how to do something, you can learn it by the end of the day. DIY applies to just about anything. Thanks, YouTube!
This help is deceiving, though. Real life issues don’t come with step-by-step DIY videos. You won’t always know how to navigate tough situations like serious financial difficulty, bad news from a doctor, or a relationship that falls apart. You can’t always turn to human experts for help, but you can always turn to God.
In Psalm 16, David described a time when he faced a situation when he didn’t know what to do. Instead of letting it crush him, he decided to look to God. And when he did, God revealed to him the path of life, which would lead to God’s presence. In God’s presence, relief, contentment, and even joy would be restored.
God hasn’t changed. Take refuge in Him, no matter what you face. Look to Him when you don’t know what to do or how to do it. In His mercy, goodness, and grace, God will show you the way. Abundant joy is always available in His presence.
1) Listen to Kelontae Gavin’s “In Your Presence.” What lyrics stand out to you as particularly encouraging? Which stand out to you as most challenging?
2) In what situation are you not sure what to do? How does Psalm16:11 speak to you about that?
3) Take a few moments to rest in God’s presence. As you do, thank Him for the fullness of joy that He alone provides.
