RESET YOUR FRUIT
"Let every word you speak be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. For then you will be prepared to give a respectful answer to anyone who asks about your faith." Colossians 4:6 (TPT)
My mom got me hooked on baking shows. I’ve grown to enjoy them because every contestant gets the same recipe, but usually, no two dishes taste the exact same. One of the most common mistakes I’ve seen a baker make is in their measurements. One person presents a beautiful cake to the judges, only to find out it is too salty. Someone else presents a jaw-dropping presentation, but the flavors get lost or overpowered by another less tasteful one. I’ve heard it said that ‘the way you say, what you say matters!’ Every day we use words drenched in something. In some cases, our words are drenched in gratitude, while in other cases, they're drenched in attitude.
Grace-drenched words don’t leave people feeling small. Grace-drenched words don’t tear people down… and Grace paired with truth and clarity has the potential of building bridges. It changes the quality in which conversations are had. If how we speak is drenched with grace, then we build a bridge to better understand the other person. Quickly jumping to conclusions can shut them down. A harshly spoken or poorly managed word might be negatively affecting your relationships. Consider how your words have been seasoned lately.
Today’s challenge: Is there a relationship in your life where it has become difficult to speak gracefully? Spend a moment in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize the source of your words as well as their impact in your relationships.
