THE TOXICITY OF SHAME

Shame is an unpleasant emotion that affects our self-esteem and self-worth. It has a toxic and deceptive aura that can be paralyzing. Shame masquerades as a safe hiding place, but let me tell you, there is nothing safe about it. My description of shame is more like a flesh-eating parasite; you can't see the attack, but it's there. It's under the skin, devouring everything related to "life." Whenever you think, "You are what you did or what happened to you," the flesh-eating identity thief is at hand. Only by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit can we detect shame in its misleading, sabotaging form. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truths.

I pray that you will not allow the poison of shame to taint any area of your life. Take the keys to God's promises and unlock the chains of guilt and shame. Submerge yourself in God's Word, believing His TRUTH overrides the facts before you. His truth says... you are wonderfully made in God's image, with an authenticity unmatched by anyone. His truth says... nothing can separate you from God's love, and regardless of your shortcomings, His plans are not to harm you but to give you hope and a future.

As sons and daughters of God, He does not see our missteps or "mess- steps" when He looks at us. He sees us as His beloved...not according to our imperfections, but according to His perfect love. So, immerse yourself in the Word and download every affirming scripture that describes you as God's masterpiece into your heart. Declare affirming scriptures over yourself ... daily. We can see ourselves through God's eyes when we find ourselves in His Word. That is a significant key to counteracting the toxicity of shame.
