Introduction

In today's reading, the apostle Paul says that God’s message is available for all to receive and experience. He says that those who don’t see it are lost in the darkness of this world. Yet God’s light can cast out darkness and shine in our hearts. He compares those with the knowledge of God to clay pots to show that God alone has supreme power.

We who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

What is your understanding of Paul’s reference to "spiritual treasure" in verse 7? Paul uses the image of a clay pot to describe those who have this "spiritual treasure." What does he mean by this comparison? Reread verse 6. In what ways do you share the knowledge of God’s glory?

Holy God, all the glory and power and honor belong to you. We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.
