#5: Marriage is just not worth it.

Marriage can be messy and hard. Relationships in general can be. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth the time, energy, and effort it takes to make them great. If you’re in a tough spot in your marriage right now, if there’s pent-up anger and bitterness and you just can’t see the light, it’s still worth it.

Our God is at work regardless of if His moves are tangible enough for us to see. Psalms 136:1 is a great reminder that He is good, and His love endures forever. We may not know what He is up to, but we can trust that it is good. I think we often neglect to recognize the spiritual work inside of us as something of value until we are so far removed from a situation that we look back and realize, wow I’m not even the same person I once was.

In Galatians 6:7-9 we see that what we sow, we will also reap. If we faithfully sow into our marriage, over time that will produce fruit. If we sow our selfishness and feed our resentment, the harvest will be bleak. This passage also encourages, “let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Don’t give up on your marriage. Maybe God is doing a work in your heart and in your spouse’s heart. If you give up now, you will never reap the harvest of new fruit that is to come.

Lean into your marriage. It is worth it. Notice I didn’t say easy - but I did say worth it!
