The People of God: The Story of the Churchਨਮੂਨਾ

Both John and James often talk about ‘the world’ and contrast it with us as the people of God. Our readings for today help to answer what it practically looks like to be the Church. Because we know we will one day be like Jesus, we seek to purify ourselves from the values of this world in its present state. We are called to love, even our enemies. This is a sign that we have passed from death into life.
This love must look like something, it cannot only be theoretical. James’s words still hold the church to account to this day. He tells us to take a look in the mirror, are our lives reflecting the life Jesus has for us? It is good to balance his words with John’s call for love to be the driving force of all we say and do as the church.

About this Plan

What is the story of the church? This plan is a month-long journey through the Bible, looking at how God uses people, situations, and symbols to bring about communion between God and humanity once again. It follows the story of Israel and then the early church, highlighting the church's hope for resurrection and new creation and our role as agents of that new creation.
