Demolish the lies you believe
Back in 2013, I saw the stronghold of Corinth, the ancient fortress perched just above the Greek city where Paul planted a Christian church. After climbing the steep banks that led up to the fortress, I marveled at the towering walls that protected the city's highest point. What would it have taken to conquer such a place? How could someone knock down the walls and conquer this stronghold in an age without drones or bombs? Answer—It would take something with immense power.
I wonder if the Corinthians glanced up at the stronghold of their city when the apostle Paul wrote about untrue thoughts. “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). God’s Word has divine power. It can demolish the lies that have a strong hold on your thoughts, like the lie that God isn’t hearing your prayers or that your pain means that God is mad at you or that you can’t patiently parent those kids another day. Since the Bible is full of the Spirit and life, as Jesus once put it, it can do more for you and in you than you might believe.
Never underestimate the impact of a morning devotion or a Sunday worship service, or a Christian song filled with the promises of God’s Word. Your Father is handing you a weapon infused with divine power that can demolish whatever lies have lived in your head for far too long.
