7 Truths of Marriage: How Two Become Oneਨਮੂਨਾ

Becoming Better Together
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
A question Leah and I often get asked is, “How in the world can two people become one?” That’s a fair question, and it’s great knowing people are thinking through what they hear. In the natural world, they cannot become one organism. In the spiritual world, where God created man and woman as equals, becoming one is as doable and supernatural as the Trinity of one God in three parts of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
That is why apart from God, you can co-occupy space and get along doing it, but you cannot press into the eternal promises of God for your marriage without Him. It’d be like standing in a parking lot of your favorite concert without tickets instead of sitting front center enjoying the show with backstage passes. In Christ, you get all-access because you are better together.
When God uses the word “one,” it describes the most intimate and lasting relationship as only experienced through marriage. Growing better together becomes tangible once you both begin working together as a single team. Love is sacrificial, and the willingness to prune away anything that drains energy from the core of your connection must remain a priority for ensuring nothing comes between both of you becoming your best as one team.
True Talk:
Commit the time to talk about how united you both are in your marriage. Identify anything that is drawing your attention away from each other. It might be work, hobbies, friends, or an unconfessed sin. Discuss how you both can tighten the mutual connection by working together as one team.
