Fearlessly Making Disciples ਨਮੂਨਾ

Overcoming False Finishes
The moment someone abandons disbelief and chooses to follow Jesus is a moment worth celebrating.
In Luke 15, Jesus tells us even the angels celebrate over one sinner who repents, but that is just the beginning of the Church’s work.
Insecurities can hinder our effectiveness from continuing beyond the point someone accepts Christ. In our attempt to do things perfectly, it’s easy to hand over discipleship to the professionals, but this is a false finish. The Great Commission was for all of us, not just clergy.
So often, we assume our job in fulfilling the Great Commission is complete once we share the gospel and someone gives their life over to Christ. That’s just the beginning. To avoid the seeds of the gospel never taking root, we must help teach new believers, so they don’t fall away.
Like the disciples, new believers need to learn what it means to follow God. We’re not just teaching theological ideas and principles. The goal of discipleship is to move someone past mere belief to commitment.
Remember, Jesus said, “Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Making disciples simply means teaching them obedience to Jesus.
For Reflection: It’s quite common to find believers whose spiritual growth is stunted due to lack of discipling. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring those people to mind and empower you to help them grow in obedience to Christ.

About this Plan

Helping launch and advance others on their spiritual journey can be intimidating. Feelings of inadequacy often paralyze us. It’s easier to defer the job to pastors or seminary students. After all, we’re not professionally trained to help others grow in their faith, right? What if we mess up? For the next seven days, you’ll find encouragement to confidently make disciples by simply studying what God’s Word says on the topic.
