OUR GOD SATISFIES

These verses remind me to focus my affections…the constant struggle of the flesh!

The notes in TPT version explain that the devil uses these cravings - gratifications of the flesh, allurement of the world & obsession with status and importance - to dilute our love for the Father and turn our affections to the things of this life. What a schemer!

It helps me to be reminded that these are indeed distractions of the devil.. he will continue to shout ”Gratify your flesh!” But when my focus is on Jesus and who He is, I have peace beyond understanding.

I am a high feeler, which means that I can be led by my feelings. I have come to see ( quite a journey… still!) that I NEVER feel good ( happy) for long if I look to the worlds offerings for my affections. However, when my affections are set on Him, the allurement of the flesh loses its lustre because His bright beauty offers truth, peace and actual joy!

It is all about my focus. Personally,  I need to posture myself before God at the beginning & end of my day in quietness and reflection and continue to focus my thoughts and feelings back on Him at points throughout the day. Then, I am filled by wonder of Him rather than pulled into thoughts or feelings of how I can fill my own longings or needs. This also is a miraculous , wondrous exchange!

Prayer:

Jesus, help me to set my affections on you and the things that matter to you. I confess that I love things about this world that are fleshy and ask you to help to focus on your love and on things that last forever.
