Real Hope: The Art of Listeningਨਮੂਨਾ

What Kind Of Listener Are You?
I often say that the key to hearing God’s voice is listening. God loves to communicate, so we just have to open our spiritual ears to hear Him.
Not rocket science right?
Well, maybe. There’s listening and then there’s listening.
There’s the kind of listening where the boy says to his mum, ‘The teacher didn’t tell us to hand in the assignment today and now she’s given me a detention!’ And then the Mum says, ‘That’s awful son! Did all your friends get detention too?’ The boy replies; ‘No, they all handed in their assignments, but she never said it was due!’
That kind of listening.
Or the kind of listening where one partner says to the other (and I’m not saying which!), ‘But honey you never told me!’ And the other partner says, ‘Yeh I did, three times yesterday while you were watching TV!’
You see, the kind of listening that receives those life-changing, power-encountering, miracle-making thoughts from heaven is the one that activates the heart; that is fully engaged; that hungers to hear God’s voice and is ready to respond.
Which kind of listener are you?

About this Plan

In a world that’s constantly shouting at us, sometimes it’s easy to forget to make space to listen, to listen to what is happening around you, to listen to what others are saying, to listen to the wind and the silence, or to listen to what God is saying. As you go through this week’s readings, our prayer is that you’ll start to explore what it means to listen well.
