Today's reading is a curious story of how David forgave a man who insulted, cursed, and attacked him. By this point in David's life he has been installed as the king of Israel. So why would a king endure such harsh treatment from a peasant? David's men are ready to behead the man, but David chooses not to retaliate. Instead, David doesn't assume his own innocence and he considers the truth of the man's curse and chooses to forgive him. The first step in extending true forgiveness is to recognize our own sin and God's great mercy to us.
