We will reflect on Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments that all point towards the coming of Christ. As we look at the story of Christ’s anticipated arrival over this Christmas season, our prayer at New Life Church is that you would remember that Jesus came to be the embodiment of God’s promises for salvation and redemption.

Advent is a season of anticipation and remembrance. During Advent, we remember the coming of the promised messiah into the world—the first advent of Jesus. But we also look forward to the time when Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead—his second Advent. For this year, we have chosen to focus our devotion on Jesus's different names and titles. The scriptures give us these names and titles to show us distinct aspects of salvation and the kind of savior Jesus would be.

This plan will lead you through the journey of Joseph as well as the life of other dreamers who saw God’s plan in everything. Join us as we read their stories throughout the Bible.

As we enter the Christmas season, we are all eager to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the point in history where God descended into humanity to bring life to a broken world. Each day leading up to Christmas, we will provide an overview of the biblical significance of a location in Israel, along with a devotional prompt that will connect that location with the life of Jesus in Scripture.

In the Old Testament, the people of God looked forward in anticipation to the coming of the Messiah. This Advent required lots of waiting, trusting, and patience. Even now we are in a season of Advent, aren’t we? In this 4-week Love God Greatly Online Advent Bible study, we will look at some of the Old Testament promises of the Savior and the humility that would characterize Him. We will study why He came and the response of various people in the Christmas story, including how we too should respond to Jesus and His coming.

This Advent Guide comes from students, faculty and staff at Belmont University. Advent is that season of waiting that carefully and purposefully helps us to realign our priorities and to glimpse, anew, our place before God. Our humble hope is this guide helps people focus more fully on Jesus Christ through the Advent season.

Whatever December looks like for you, wherever you are, whoever you are with or not with, our hope is that you will set aside time every day over the next four weeks to open God’s Word. We will have short devotionals each day to help you reflect on the day’s reading. We pray that you will see Jesus in a new light this Christmas.
