Meteen ging hij het geld naar de leidende priesters en de andere leden van de Hoge Raad terugbrengen. ‘Het is misdadig wat ik heb gedaan,’ schreeuwde hij. ‘Ik heb onschuldig bloed verraden.’ ‘Dat gaat ons niet aan,’ antwoordden ze. ‘Dat is uw zaak.’ Judas gooide het geld over de vloer van de tempel en ging naar buiten. Even later hing hij zich op.
