Day 23 by Seth Yates, Prayer Room Director of UPPERROOM Dallas Today’s Reading: Revelation 8-15 “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11) The best view of the end times is through the holes in the hands of Jesus. The scars on Jesus’ hands will forever be a reminder of the Father’s commitment to us. We hear this commitment out loud in the prayer Jesus prayed to the Father in the garden when He said, “Father, I desire that they would be with Me where I am, and to see my glory..” (John 17:24) This desire for God to dwell with us can be seen from the beginning. Adam saw it in the garden. Noah saw it in the rainbow. Abraham saw it in the stars. Moses saw it on the mountain. David saw it in the tabernacle. Mary saw it in a child. The disciples saw it in the upper room. Through a burning bush and split seas, arks made of wood and arks made of gold, from shekinah on Sinai to tents and temples, through prophets, priests, and poets, and the sacrifice of an only Son, we see God’s longing and commitment to be with us. We are covered in this commitment, the very blood of the Lamb. This is the word of our testimony, that He will never leave us nor forsake us. The book of Revelation is not about fear but fulfillment. The Father will fulfill His desire to be with us forever. Jesus burned with this desire in His heart, and it kept Him on the cross; He will quite literally move heaven and earth to be with His Bride in the end. We don’t walk through the trials ahead as an insecure Bride, but as a confident Bride who knows the fiery jealous commitment of their God. He is the Author, the Perfector, and the Finisher of our faith. We can rest in this revelation, the way Jesus slept on the boat in the middle of the storm. It’s not our commitment to Him that gets us through tribulation. It’s His. PRAYER: Father, I thank You for Your commitment to me. I ask that You would put the same desire that Jesus felt for me on the cross in my heart today. Holy Spirit, reveal the faithfulness of the Father to me; that He will never leave me nor forsake me. Come and shake everything that can be shaken in my heart until I am fully rooted and grounded in love. Burn away all bridges to doubt, that I would walk confidently in love and Your commitment to me, through every season, knowing all Your promises are “Yes and Amen.”
