100 Days to a Healthier Church

DAY 100 OF 100

Day 100 (Sunday): All-church Celebration and Thanksgiving Today’s Big Idea: Gratefulness. On Day 17, we looked at a well-known quote from Max De Pree: “The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between the two, the leader must become a servant and a debtor.” The first half of this process was about defining reality. The hard work in the second half was servanthood. Now we get to celebrate and say, “Thank You!” Key Verse: You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God (2 Corinthians 9:11). Thoughts to Consider: This passage is not about giving. It’s not about seed-faith. And it’s certainly not about getting rich. It’s about generosity. Take a look at the Key Verse again. “You will be enriched in every way.” Woohoo! Sounds good to me! But take note of why we’re being enriched. It’s not so we can keep the treasures to ourselves, but “so that you can be generous on every occasion.” The goal is not to accumulate wealth or blessings, but to nurture a spirit of generosity. The most joyous, effective, and life-giving Christians and churches ooze generosity. They’re not about getting, they’re about giving. That should always be the result of receiving God’s blessings. We’re not supposed to be the bucket where the flow of God’s blessings stops. We’re meant to be a pipeline through which God’s blessings flow.
