Sing Praises to the King

2 Chronicles 20:5-27

When a massive number of enemy soldiers assembled to attack the Israelites, King Jehoshaphat was terrified. But, he did the wisest thing he could possibly do—he set his face to seek the Lord, proclaiming a fast throughout all of Judah. His prayer is a powerful, beautiful example for anyone who is facing incredible odds. “In Your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you” (2 Chronicles 20:5, ESV). He absolutely states that God is bigger than any enemy force. However, he reminds the Lord that without Him, they are powerless to defend themselves against so vast an enemy. “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You” (20:12, ESV).

The Lord beautifully assures the king that they have no need to fear or be dismayed by this great and mighty army, “for the battle is not yours but God’s” (20:15, ESV).

Do you need to hear those words, dear friend? When the battle is due to an attack from the enemy of our soul, then our God, the only true God, will fight for us. We need not fear or be dismayed. You and I can do what the Israelites did—praise God in the presence of the enemy. As they sang, the Lord set an ambush and routed the enemy.

Are you facing a difficult situation? Sing praise to your King. Are you battling a troubling diagnosis? Sing songs of worship. Are you leaving behind a past lifestyle and the enemy is taunting and tempting you? Sing of the greatness of your God. There is great spiritual power in our worship, and the enemy is routed and flees when we raise our voices and our hands in honor and declaration of the greatness of our God.   “ . . . for the Lord had made them rejoice over their enemies” (20:27, ESV).

He will do the same for you!
