Perseverance & Overcoming

We live in an incredible time! New and developing technologies have rapidly changed the face of missions over my twenty years on the field. I am amazed at what we can accomplish with the Gospel. Yet, I don’t know about you, but I’m tired. The uncertainty of the circumstances has exposed my limitations, in my character and physically. What possibly do I have left to give? 

All throughout the book of Hebrews, the author exhorts the weary and tired readers to overcome and endure, but how? Hebrews 12:1–13 has given me ways to endure in these difficult times. In 12:1, the author exhorts me to consider the life of all those who have gone before (see ch. 11). When was the last time I looked to their example? 

Also in this verse, I’m to consider my own life. When was the last time I did personal inventory of my hindrances? In 12:2, I’m exhorted to fix my eyes on Jesus. How did Jesus overcome? He is with me now to help me so I don’t grow weary. 

I’m challenged in the following verses to receive His stretching, learn how to walk in His life-giving ways, deal with my weak parts, and be careful how I influence others as I go through my process. I have hope, peace and joy when others do not, let’s lean on Christ and follow the examples of those who have persevered and overcome.
