God’s Will Looks Like Love

Yesterday we looked at how God’s will isn’t a hidden map. It’s not a puzzle you have to solve to avoid ruining your life. Instead, God is more concerned with who you’re becoming than with whether you always pick the “right” option.

How do we begin to become who we’re meant to be? If you want to know what God wants you to do, start with love.

When someone asked Jesus what mattered most to God, He gave a clear answer. Love God. Love others. Everything else hangs on those two commands. In other words, God’s will is always leading us toward love.

That means when you’re facing a decision, one of the most helpful questions you can ask is this: Which option helps me love God and love others more?

This doesn’t mean every choice will be easy or obvious.

Loving people well sometimes requires setting boundaries. Loving God might mean saying no to something that looks good but leads your heart away from Him. But if your aim is to love, you’re already heading in the direction of God’s will.

James, the brother of Jesus, reminds us not just to hear God’s word but to do something with it. That includes applying love to the choices you’re making. Is there a decision you’re facing right now that could reflect God’s love in a new way?

Try This Today

  • Think about the decision in front of you.
  • Ask yourself: How might each option help me love God? How might it help me love someone else?
  • Write down any actions, ideas, or people that come to mind.

Pray: God, I want to love You and love people well. As I make this decision, show me what love looks like. Teach me to put Your heart above my comfort, and help me live out my faith with action, not just intention. In Jesus’ name, amen.
