The Humble Work of Forgiveness

When was the last time you asked someone for forgiveness? If it’s been a while, it’s worth asking—have you truly avoided offense, or have you simply avoided admitting it? As followers of Jesus, we never graduate from the need to humble ourselves and make things right with others.

True spiritual maturity isn’t shown by never making mistakes, but by being quick to own them. The willingness to say, “I was wrong—please forgive me,” is not weakness. Its strength is rooted in grace. It’s evidence that God is softening our hearts and shaping us to be more like Him.

Jesus teaches that greatness in His Kingdom looks like humility. That includes humbling ourselves when we’ve hurt someone and forgiving when we’ve been wronged. It’s not easy. Pride pushes us to defend ourselves, to justify, or ignore. But love leads us to reconciliation.

Forgiveness restores what pride tries to destroy. Whether you need to extend grace or ask for it, don’t delay. These moments—though difficult—are sacred. They reflect the heart of our Savior, who freely forgives and welcomes us back every time.

Respond to God’s Word:

Today, ask God to show you where forgiveness is needed. Then take the first step, trusting Him with the outcome.
