Choose Mercy

When was the last time you were shown mercy? Just last week, my wife was pulled over for speeding. She fully expected a ticket, but instead, the officer let her off with a warning. That small act of mercy changed the tone of her entire day. It reminded us both how powerful mercy can be.

We live in a world quick to judge, quick to point fingers, and slow to understand. But Jesus models something entirely different. He consistently chose mercy over rules, people over rituals. He looked beyond mistakes and into hearts. His mercy wasn’t weakness—it was strength wrapped in compassion.

As parents, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, we’re given opportunities every day to choose how we’ll respond to others. Will we lead with judgment or with grace? Choosing mercy doesn’t mean ignoring truth; it means responding to people the way Jesus has responded to us—with patience, kindness, and compassion.

Respond to God’s Word:

Think about a situation in your life right now where judgment comes easy. Ask God for the strength to choose mercy instead. That one act of grace could be what opens someone’s heart to God’s love. Mercy speaks louder than criticism—and it always leaves room for redemption.
