Eating With the Enemy

Sitting on the beach with my colleague, I found myself deep in conversation. My delicious lunch sat at the end of my lounge chair in a beige container. I was savoring every bite of my spicy chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. It was a beautiful day until something in my spirit nudged me to look down.

When my eyes met the container, I nearly passed out. A beige, camouflaged iguana was perched on the edge of my plate, comfortably having lunch with me. Its boldness must’ve stunned me into silence for a few seconds.

Then came the scream… “AHHHHHH!”

My voice echoed across the beach as I leapt up, knocking over the container and my lunch. My enemy had been leisurely dining with me, and I hadn’t noticed. Its color matched the sandwich, the container, and even the beach towel covering the lounge chair. It was like a ‘blind lunch date’ to which I never agreed.

Like the devil, the iguana had camouflaged itself, boldly feasting on my blessings. It thought it had hidden well. But here’s the truth: nothing and no one can truly hide from God’s people. Sooner or later, camouflage fails, and the enemy is exposed.

As 2 Thessalonians 2:8 (BRG) says:

“And then shall that wicked one be revealed…”

This season, God is going undercover to uncover, so His people can recover. Hidden enemies, situational friendships, and undercover accusers are being exposed. The Lord is spotlighting every pretender who has been comfortably enjoying access to your life without permission.

When that revelation comes, don’t be shocked; just be thankful. That chapter is closing. God is preparing to surround you with genuine people: friends who celebrate your wins without envy, pray for you sincerely, and help you climb when life gets hard. Your destiny helpers, God-ordained and God-sent, are on the way.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for this season of uncovering. Thank you for shining a light in dark places and exposing what is hidden. Help us walk in discernment and recognize relationships that no longer align with Your life's purpose. Give us the strength to set boundaries in love and peace and surround us with the right people; those who will support, uplift, and pray with pure hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

1. Are there any relationships in your life that God may gently reveal as unhealthy or deceptive?

2. How can you ask God for greater discernment and courage to set boundaries while still showing His love?
