Devotional:

“So give Your servant a discerning heart to govern Your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?” 1 Kings 3:9

When Solomon became king, he did not ask God for riches, power, or fame. Instead, he humbly requested wisdom to lead God’s people well. His request pleased the Lord because it reflected a heart that sought to serve rather than be served. Solomon recognized that true leadership required discernment beyond human ability, and he turned to God as the source of wisdom.

How often do we make decisions based on our own understanding rather than seeking God’s guidance? In a world full of conflicting voices, we need spiritual discernment to navigate life wisely. Like Solomon, we should ask God for wisdom in our relationships, careers, and daily choices. James 1:5 reminds us that God generously gives wisdom to those who ask. As believers, we are called to lead and influence others—whether in our families, workplaces, or churches. A heart of wisdom seeks God first, trusting that His ways are higher than our own.

Prayer:

Pray for a discerning heart that seeks God’s wisdom above all else. Ask Him to guide your decisions so you may lead and serve others in a way that honors Him.

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 2

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
