Devotional:

“Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:38-40

Before facing Goliath, David was offered King Saul’s armor, but it didn’t fit him. Instead, he chose the tools he was familiar with—a sling and five stones. What seemed weak to others was what God had already trained David to use.

Victory doesn’t come through the world’s methods but through God’s power. Often, we try to rely on what others say we need—status, resources, or experience. But God has already given us exactly what we need to fulfill His purpose. David’s confidence wasn’t in armor but in the Lord. He knew that the same God who helped him defeat lions and bears as a shepherd would help him defeat Goliath. We don’t need to compare ourselves to others or try to be something we’re not. God has equipped us uniquely for our battles. What matters is not the strength of our weapons but the power of the One who fights for us.

Prayer:

Pray for the confidence to trust in the gifts and calling God has given you. Ask Him to remove the fear of comparison and help you walk boldly in faith, knowing He has already provided all you need for victory. Rather than looking for where you are not serving, ask God to use you right where you are, among your friends and family, in your neighborhood, or community. He’s already gifted you and placed you there for a reason.

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 2

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
