Revival David’s passion for revival is based upon his desire that the people rejoice in God. He is not seeking to rejoice in the blessings of God but in the glory of God’s person. He is more desirous of the Giver than of the gift; he is more desirous of the Father God than the obvious acts of love and kindness shown him. That is the true essence of revival. There were two boys who grew up together on a farm. One was determined to be rich. He succeeded, becoming a millionaire. The other remained on the farm, married a woman who loved him, and raised children who loved him as well. Years later the two met in the Waldorf-Astoria—the farmer with his wife and two daughters; the millionaire alone, his wife in Paris, his daughter in London, and his son on a yacht. He wanted someone to love him, not for what he had but just for himself. He later died alone of a broken heart. God wants us to love Him, not for what He gives but for who He is.
